This dreamy Tropical Protein Pink Porridge with Pretty Pea Protein Powder and Raw Nice Pink Pitaya Powder has been lovingly made in mind especially for Gastroparesis.
This Protein Porridge recipe is absolutely perfect for those chilly mornings and for when you want to start your day off with something packed full of vitamins and hearty goodness.
During the past few months, I’ve needed to rebuild my strength after months of a long, insidious Gastroparesis flare. Making protein-packed porridge has become my favourite way to pack in as many vitamins and minerals my body needs first thing in the morning.
The recipe I have created for today is a tropical nourishing bowl of pink porridge made with Pretty Pea Protein and Raw Nice’s Pink Pitaya Powder that is deeply inspired by my Caribbean travels from earlier this year.
This creamy, dreamy whimsical hot pink Porridge is an all-vegan, gluten-free and dairy-free bowl of comfort and vibrant colour that will warm up your mornings no end!

Protein Powders for Gastroparesis with Pretty Pea Vegan Protein
Before I dive into the recipe, I wanted to pause and touch on how protein powders can be very beneficial to those that, like me, suffer from Gastroparesis.
Gastroparesis (also called delayed gastric emptying), is a chronic digestive condition.
With Gastroparesis, the vagus nerve and/or muscle damage can impair the stomach’s ability to contract and release properly.
Some refer to Gastroparesis as having a paralysed stomach (this is because Gastro equals stomach and paresis equals paralysis). This means that food and fluid in the stomach remain there for longer, hence Gastroparesis being described as “delayed emptying”.
I have lived with Gastroparesis for many years, and I write as extensively as I am able to about my experience here. To learn more about the condition I recommend starting with my post: ‘What Is Gastroparesis?’
As a result of having Gastroparesis, eating and drinking can be very distressing and troublesome. Every single day, I live with constant nausea and an internal battle of creating meals that my body is able to digest.
In this post I wrote called ‘Natural Therapies for Gastroparesis’ I touch on how I approach eating and drinking alongside natural remedies that help to soothe me when I need it.
More recently, I have been working with a Dietician to enable me to maintain a healthy weight as many who have Gastroparesis like me will understand how challenging this is.
When Gastroparesis patients like me experience flares, it can lead to long periods at a time of being on a liquid diet. And thus, in order to gain as much strength as possible, many will add protein powders to their liquid meal replacements.
Protein is an essential macronutrient and an important part of a balanced diet, and especially so when you have Gastroparesis. However, many forms of high protein foods, like animal products, legumes, dairy products, nuts and seeds can be extremely difficult to digest if you have Gastroparesis and many, including myself, have had to exclude them from their diet in order to reduce symptoms. And this is where protein powders can be a huge blessing!
Having said that, there is an overwhelming number of protein powders on the market and most contain whey protein that is unsuitable for me as I have a dairy intolerance. Moreover, they can also be filled with ingredients that aggravate symptoms in general, particularly sugar, alcohols, artificial ingredients etc.
I have also (as always!) been on the hunt for something that felt whimsical and enchanting to me, because if you’re here reading this, I’m pretty sure you’ve noticed that’s how we roll around here!
I am therefore so delighted that it was complete fate that I was so kindly sent Pretty Pea Vegan Protein to use in this recipe.
Pretty Pea Protein is a vegan protein powder that is not only incredibly pretty and ethereal to behold, but packed with superfoods such as Spirulina, Green Tea, Acai Berry and Chicory Root. All known for their potency and power for centuries.

I know the idea of a tropical porridge recipe probably sounds a little odd. But trust me, this wondrous looking porridge, packed full with all the tropical flavours you could imagine, is guaranteed to brighten your mornings.
To make this extra decadent, I love making this porridge with coconut milk because it truly lifts the subtly sweet flavour and extra-creamy texture.
For a truly playful touch why not add some pink colouring? I’m in love with Rawnice’s Pink Pitaya Powder. The taste is ever so lightly sweet but also blends with just about anything. The colour and whimsicality it adds to a relatively simple dish like porridge are so fun to work with. Soon enough, trust me, you’ll be tempted to make all your food pink!
I approach eating with as much enchantment and whimsicalness that I can bring to my life because it truly feels more inviting to nourish my body this way when I have Gastroparesis.
So, not only is this magical porridge a vibrant pink, but I have also topped it with tropical fruits, coconut chips, edible flowers, granola and edible glitter so that each bite takes me one step closer back to my memories of being in the Caribbean from earlier this year. I even used some of my precious Guava Jam that I got in Barbados (I need to go back just for this alone!)

Tropical Protein Pink Porridge with Pretty Pea Protein Powder and Raw Nice Pink Pitaya Powder for Gerd and Gastroparesis (Vegan + Dairy-Free + Gluten-Free)
Equipment
- 1 Pan
- Measuring spoons and jugs/cups
Ingredients
- 1/2 Cup Gluten-Free Oats
- 3/4 Cup Plant-Based Mylk (I'm using Coconut Milk today)
- 1 tbsp Pretty Pea Protein Powder (1 tbsp roughly equals 1 scoop)
- 1 tsp Rawnice Pink Pitaya Powder
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
- 1 tsp Coconut Oil
- 1 tbsp Gluten-Free Granola (I'm using Deliciously Ella)
- 1 tbsp Coconut Chips
- Fruit toppings of choice (I'm using Strawberries and Bananas)
- 1 tsp Jam (optional. I'm using Guava Jam)
Instructions
- Preferably allow your oats to soak in a bowl of filtered water overnight. This helps make it easier to digest in the morning (especially if you're making this and have Gastroparesis). If this isn't possible, add a small amount of water to the dry oats and leave for 20 minutes to absorb.
- Add your oats to a pan on a medium to low heat. Add the milk, vanilla and coconut oil and stir gently together.
- Next, add the dry ingredients: the Pretty Pea Protein Powder and the Rawnice powder. Stir and fold this in gently. A small tip if you're using the Rawnice powder: Use the back of a small teaspoon to break up the powder so it's truly vibrant and not lumpy.
- Cook your oats until you're happy with the texture and they are nicely warmed through.
- Add to your bowl of choice and get creative with your toppings! I applied a semi-circle of granola to the outside, then add coconut chips beside this. I then arranged my fruit around this. I chopped up strawberries and then used a star-shaped cutter for the bananas!
- To finish, I added a dollop of tropical Guava Jam. This is an optional step!
Notes
Rawnice Pink Pitaya Powder
The hot pink colour to this porridge has been created with the Rawnice Pink Pitaya Powder. Isn’t it just fabulous? It reminds me of the flamingos I was blessed to see in Bonaire! Rawnice’s Pink Pitaya Powder is made from the flesh of the red dragon fruit, a tropical cactus fruit native to South America.
Once ripe and harvested, the red dragon fruit is processed and freeze-dried into this gorgeous vibrant pink powder that is an Instagram dream!
By the way, how cute is the coconut bowl as well? It truly lifts the tropic vibes! I got it from Coconut Bowl. If you’d like to get one you can click here. Pretty Pea Protein Powder
Pretty Pea Protein Powder provides your body with the building blocks that contribute to growth in muscle mass and maintenance of normal bones. It is also free from gluten, dairy and soy with no artificial sweeteners or added sugars.
The unique formula in Pretty Pea Protein Powder contains a concentrated level of pea protein isolate that provides 72.2g of protein per 100g with an excellent amino acid profile.
If you are using a 25g serving of Pretty Pea Protein Powder, it will provide you with 18.1g of protein, 2.6g of fibre and just 0.8g of carbs. Additionally, this vegan protein powder is naturally low in carbs at less than <1g per serving with virtually no sugars. At only 96 calories per serving, Pretty Pea Protein Powder is ideal for both weight management and calorie-controlled diets.
The Pretty Pea Protein Powder is an ultra-fine powder delicately blended with real superfood ingredients. These include Spirulina, one of the most nutrient-dense foods on the planet, Green Tea which has been used for centuries and famed for being an antioxidant haven, just like Acai Berry, and finally, Chicory Root that gives Pretty Pea Protein its high fibre content.
One tub is £20.99 for 500g which is truly a great investment considering I use just one scoop at a time. The consistency is that of a very fine powder so it blends like dream in smoothies and into a porridge recipe like this.
The taste is neutral with a touch of sweetness meaning it will really work with every recipe that comes to mind. I barely noticed it here in this porridge, but I love that because I know I can enjoy concentrating on the other flavours that I wish to combine.
Unlike some other protein powders I have looked at, Pretty Pea Vegan Protein contains no hexane or other toxic chemicals which are often used during the pea protein extraction process.
Moreover, this has been created with a conscience, with peas only picked within UK and Europe that have been extracted using just water pressure and flocculation, a process reserved for only the prettiest of peas. The pot is also 100% recyclable container (or fab for customising afterwards!).
If all of this wasn’t enough, Pretty Pea Vegan Protein is hypo-allergenic, bioavailable and easy to digest. This is so important with Gastroparesis, and this no bloat formula makes the perfect protein powder choice for those with certain food intolerances, illnesses and allergies.
