So my Music Monday feature has had a little holiday over Christmas but I’m back with more, and I hope you agree, musical delights! Today I want to tell you all about a band I am loving with huge amounts lately called Wolf Gang, a British alternative and symphonic rock band (not to be confused with Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart as I believe there’s no connection!). Fronted by the lovely Max McElligott (a definite Ewan Mcgreggor look-a-like!) as lead vocalist, who dreamt up the idea of becoming a musician whilst still studying at London School of Economics. Shortly their debut album ‘Suego Faults’ followed with every song on the album having been put together by Max himself and Dave Fridmann, a producer you may know from his work with The Flaming Lips, MGMT and Mercury Rev.
I actually first heard about Wolf Gang through ‘Made In Chelsea’ because you all know I’m obsessed with that show, and I then saw them support Keane on tour more recently. It’s the song ‘Lion in Cages’ that I keep hearing as it what made me notice them in particular. It has that a rather glorious creeping haunting 15 second start, and then what follows is a bombardment of synth and percussion nestled against a soft piano alt-pop esque vibe that I do rather adore. With their lovely soft melodies, soaring choruses and an overall sound not too dissimilar to the great MGMT, I predict huge things for Wolf Gang this year. They have already supported Coldplay on tour, become the theme tune for ‘Switch’ and were handpicked to perform for Burberry at Fashion Night Out and also Armani. Had to get some fashion in this post somewhere ;).
Have a little listen to ‘Lion in Cages’ and let me know what you think, and if you’re eager to find out more about them click here and you can also download their tracks from there too.
