Boscombe Vintage Market

Yesterday I spent the day selling some of my hair accessories at Boscombe Vintage Market. Whilst I don’t normally blog about my market days I thought with the new year and all, I wanted to blog a little more about ‘daily life’ esque things, so do let me know if this is something that interest you all!

Boscombe, in case you’re not sure, is an area on the coast to the east of Bournemouth in Dorset, on the south coast of England. Now many of you will have heard of Bournemouth itself, one of the wealthiest and happiest places to live in the UK, (apparently!), with stunning award winning beaches, fantastic nightlife and a wonderful central hub for the arts. Sadly, central Boscombe is quite a deprived area with high levels of unemployment amongst other issues. On the flip side, Boscombe is a vibrant community network with a long fascinating cultural history, stunning beaches, a historic pier and award winning parks. In the last few years a project called Boscombe Regeneration partnership was set up to get behind the area and who are committed to improving it. One such way to improve the area has been to introduce many independent retailers and businesses, notably creative businesses trading in antiques, art, collectables and vintage clothing.

And this is where Boscombe Vintage Market plays a vital role. Established in October 2010 it sells the wares of many local vintage sellers and crafters on the first Saturday of every month with free entry in the majestic Royal Arcade. The market is wonderful in providing opportunities for small businesses like myself and other local artists, but most importantly it increases footfall in the area; and is raising the profile of Boscombe as a creative arts and cultural hub! I thought I would share a few of my local artists work and I hope you love their stuff as much as I do!

I hope you enjoyed this post and I’d love to know if you support and visit local craft markets in your area? Has anyone ever been to Boscombe Vintage market? Let me know, as always all your thoughts and musings below and I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I’m currently watching and loving Mr Selfridge :).

Oh my, oh my! What a glorious looking market! I want to pick up all the lovely finds in your photos.

I love going to local markets and spent many a lunch time at Spitafields in London: http://adventuresandteaparties.blogspot.co.uk/2012/10/lunch-breaks-in-city-spitafields-market.html. I've actually just moved from London to Leicestershire and I cannot wait to start exploring all the fabulous markets in the Midlands!

Hope you had much success at Boscombe!
