Almond & Co Bournemouth, Dorset, Zero Waste and Package Free Shop

by | Aug 14, 2019 | Dorset, Enchanted Living, Wanderlust Travel Diary | 0 comments

Who else just hates to see the colossal amount of wasteful packaging in supermarkets and shops? The way we shop can make such a difference to this precious world we live in, and today I’m delighted to feature Almond & Co, the new packaging free shop that has come to Dorset.

The rise of packaging-free shops throughout the UK has increased dramatically this year, but of course, in many ways, this is how our grandparents would have shopped. I know mine certainly did!

I’ve always been one of those quirky people that LOVES food shopping (and don’t even get me started on my love for shopping in international supermarkets too!), as growing up I have also always loved cooking as well, and I really take enjoyment and pride in a conscious shopping experience. I buy vegetable and fruit that is in the season where possible and have always enjoyed shopping at markets the most for fresh local produce.

Sadly, so many of the large chain supermarkets so often are the choice for most things, but it’s with great joy that packaging-free shops can almost completely fill this gap now.

And Almond & Co certainly fills that gap in Dorset now. The concept of shopping here, like others like it, is that it will allow you to refill your own bags and containers. In doing so, you will be saving on food and packaging waste. Simply bring your own bags or containers and fill with as much or as little as you need.

At Almond & Co, they also pride themselves on finding tasty local produce and clever products that look great, work hard, and don’t cause any unnecessary harm to the planet. Their customer service is also so lovely and genuine, and if you’re travelling from a distance in the county, I recommend calling first if you’re looking for something specific.

Inside Almond & Co, you’ll find groceries and household goods from local producers and brands from further afield, but the one thing they, and their partners have in common is that they make quality products that are sensibly priced and consciously made.

Almond & Co is super picky about what goes on their shelves, so whilst their selection is limited we’re confident you’ll find everything you need and nothing you don’t. Because, essentially, consumption is the major cause of environmental degradation. We can’t shop our way to a low-impact lifestyle. That said, it’s entirely possible to invest in a few things that will reduce our impact on the planet and to purchase the right things from the right places.

Almond & Co is a really special spot in Bournemouth, and I do hope to see this initiative blossom throughout the county and the rest of the country. I feel very lucky to have this on my doorstep.

If you’re a Dorset local or want to visit the area, please do be sure to check out my Dorset recommendations here. It features plant-based restaurants like Twelve to a plant-based lunch at Urban Reef and also sustainability establishments like this plus lots of my favourite places to visit.

How many Dorset locals do I have reading this? Have any of you been to Almond & Co yet? If not, is this something you have access to near your own hometown? How do you go about food shopping? Is sustainability important to you when you consider your weekly shop?

Please tell me what you think about this shop and this initiative in the comments below. I’d be thrilled to hear about how you go making your weekly shop as sustainable as possible.
