Hello and welcome! If we haven’t had the pleasure of meeting yet, I’m Georgie, a redheaded pixie living in the UK also known as the ‘bow girl’ and the owner of Beauxoxo!
I originally created this little space way back in 2009, while I was incredibly bored in a music theory class. I soon realised that I was seeking a creative outlet outside of my rigid studies and so the blog was born!
It was originally called ‘Dreams That Glitter’ after a line from one of my favourite Girls Aloud songs I was obsessed with at the time called, ‘Call The Shots’. This blog was a home for sporadic craft projects, my love for Betsey Johnson and a place to document setting up my hair accessory business Beauxoxo.
Beyond my wildest dreams, Beauxoxo grew exponentially while I was still studying, and so became the focus of all of my attention. However, it was also during these exciting times that I received the life-changing news that I had developed a benign Pituitary Tumour coupled with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and Endometriosis.
Naturally, the news left me feeling like I was existing under a very dark cloud, despite on the surface painting a picture of endless adventures. And alongside all of this, I was continuing to develop deeply debilitating and mystifying elements during these years of Scerloderma, a chronic autoimmune disease, that I was officially diagnosed with in early 2018.
This now brings me to the present day and my wish to re-ignite this little space that gifted me with so much joy and escapism during those lonely student days. Whilst my health may be an even greater challenge in life than it was then, over the years it has taught me that much more and gives me a perspective that I would not have had otherwise.
I’ve learnt during this time that there is a silver lining that prevails. For me, that has been a heightened experience of pure and simple appreciation. My conditions are not who I am, but it is a part of my story. To accept that modern medicine cannot restore you is an ongoing grieving process, but it fuels my hunger to thrive and my fight to survive.
I realise that life is a blessing and I’m more appreciative than ever. And so when things get tough I have, and I will continue to focus my mind on something that I am grateful for. Like the days drenched in pure and utter loveliness like this photo that I feel truly symbolises me more than anything else (because is there anything more joyful than Miffy?!) and for all the amazing things that I am able to do and see when I can.
This blog is a huge part of all of the above in that it will allow me to document those pure, beautiful moments in my life and share how I strive to showcase what brings me the most whimsy and joy in life more than ever. From pretty and practical everyday crafts, recipes that nurture my body and mind, to travels from a heart full of wanderlust with a dream to see everything that this beautiful world has to offer.
A few fun facts for you: I grew up in Dorset by the seaside, I worked for LUSH throughout my studies in the very first shop in Poole, I studied Music and Art history at University, outside of Beauxoxo and this little platform I write about music and history for children, I’m currently writing a book on the latter, I travelled to Sweden and Finland a lot during my childhood so I have a huge affection for the Moomins, I adore Scandinavian Dream-Pop, I’m deeply passionate about Eurovision and I’ve grown up watching Melodifestivalen in Swedish hotels from as young as I can remember, I have a dairy allergy, Miffy is my raison d’etre, 100% chocolate is my addiction, I speak Japanese, I suffer from Dyscalculia and finally, Claude Monet and The Impressionists are some of my greatest inspirations.
With all my heart: Thank you so, so much for being here with me! I am so honoured and can never express enough how much it means to me that you’ve stopped by. If you want to say hi outside of this little platform, you can find me tweeting Miffy and fan-girling over Christine and The Queens on Twitter, curating travel storytelling series on Instagram, or sharing my adventures, crafts and travels on my YouTube channel.
With all my whimsy love and appreciation,
Georgie xoxo
