What better way to celebrate a special occasion than with an afternoon tea in Dorset? And, even better, why not combine it with a tour of the scenic surroundings of Dorset? Well, thanks to Dorset Cruises, you can now experience an Afternoon Tea that truly encapsulates all the senses.
Last week I was very fortunate enough to board the beautiful Dorset Queen for an afternoon of decadence with an Afternoon High Tea Cruise cruising around the stunning surroundings of Poole Harbour.
Time spent enjoying Afternoon Tea is already a truly pleasurable experience, but to merge this with a trip around the deeply historical and stunning Poole Quay provides you with a truly unforgettable sightseeing experience.
The Afternoon Tea
With an Afternoon High Tea onboard Dorset Cruises, not only will you experience a quintessentially English selection of sweet and savoury delights, but you will also enjoy this whilst cruising along the Jurassic Coast, taking a trip past Brownsea Island coupled with a scenic tour of Poole Harbour.
A standard Afternoon Tea experience with Dorset Cruises features traditional scones with jam and clotted cream to dainty sandwiches, and mini patisseries, including an endless supply of Dorset tea! You are also served a celebratory glass of prosecco to toast your memorable occasion with.
I was so kindly treated to a special dairy-free afternoon tea because of my allergy, and this included my own sandwiches and selected sweet treats of my own.
Your Afternoon Tea is served on vintage crockery, a personal favourite, and this quintessential tea tradition is a truly mouth-watering experience you can enjoy immensely whilst taking in the glorious surroundings of Dorset.
This Afternoon High Tea experience with Dorset Cruises departs from historical Poole Quay at 1:30pm, and then sets sail towards the North Channel towards the coastline of Lilliput. You will first pass by the Parkstone Yacht Club, followed by Salterns Marina and then the Royal Motor Yacht Club.
After crossing back over the main shipping channel, you then take a sweeping view of Brownsea Castle, on Brownsea Island
Growing up in Dorset, the beautiful Brownsea Island has such special memories for me. This magical, mystical island is situated in Poole Harbour, with dramatic views towards the Purbeck Hills.
Brownsea Island boasts a thriving natural habitat that includes woodland, heathland and a lagoon that over time has created havens for wildlife, including the very special red squirrels! But you can also find a huge variety of birds, including the sandwich tern.
From Brownsea Island, your cruise will also take you alongside the famous Millionaires Row of Sandbanks, that boasts some of the most expensive property in the whole world.
To end your trip, you will then sail by Poole Bay to take in the breathtaking natural spectacle of World Heritage Site that Dorset is home to called the Jurassic Coast, before heading back into the world’s largest natural harbour to scenically cruise around the back of the five islands.
Whilst you sip tea and devour your beautiful feast of afternoon treats, your senses will also be treated to background jazz music that will transport you to another era, whilst also learning about the deeply historical port and surrounding areas of Poole on your tour.
Now named the Dorset Queen, the boot that offers this decadent afternoon for all is also steeped in history as fascinating as Poole. Due to the size and intimacy, the ship holds about 20 places each week to ensure exclusivity, so it’s also a wonderful idea for a group party.
A huge thank you to Dorset Cruises for this magical occasion where you can hit the waves and experience Dorset’s picturesque waterways and dramatic coast by boat, whilst partaking in a truly British tradition of Afternoon Tea to tantalise all the senses.
If you’ve lived in Dorset all your life like me, if you’re new to the area, or happen to be planning a visit, I truly think this Afternoon High Tea cruise from Dorset Cruises is such a wonderful, memorable way to experience the fabulous scenery Poole offers, and there really is no better viewpoint than from the water!
